Fake webcam for Zoom

Play a pre-recorded video as your Zoom camera. CamLooper registers as a real webcam device, so Zoom treats it exactly like your built-in camera — no screen sharing, no OBS, no account.

How to fake your webcam on Zoom

About a minute, start to finish.

1

Install CamLooper

Grab the installer for Windows or Linux from the download page. It sets up the virtual camera driver for you.

2

Pick your video and hit Start

Drop in the clip you want on camera. CamLooper decodes it locally with FFmpeg and loops it into the virtual camera.

3

Choose it in Zoom

In Zoom, open Settings → Video and pick CamLooper Virtual Camera. Your loop appears where your live feed would be.

Zoom only scans for cameras when it launches — start CamLooper first, or restart Zoom if the device isn't listed. Step-by-step with screenshots: use a video as your webcam in Zoom.

Why use a fake webcam in Zoom?

Meet a camera-on rule

Some meetings expect a face on screen. A looping clip of you at your desk satisfies that without livestreaming your room to everyone on the call.

Keep your home private

No virtual background to glitch at the edges, and nothing behind you to tidy. What plays is a clip you recorded and approved.

Demos and playback

Play a product walkthrough or a recorded segment straight into the call as the camera feed, in full quality and in speaker view.

Zoom fake webcam questions

Is a fake webcam allowed on Zoom?

Zoom supports virtual cameras — the same mechanism OBS uses — and they're widely used for overlays and pre-recorded content. The software is not against Zoom's rules. What you play through it is your responsibility: be upfront with the people on your call, and never use it to impersonate someone or to get past an identity check.

Is CamLooper free for Zoom?

Yes, completely free, including for commercial use. There's no trial, no watermark and no account. Development is funded by small in-app ads that never touch your video.

Does my video get uploaded to Zoom or anywhere else?

No. CamLooper decodes your file locally with FFmpeg and writes frames straight into the virtual camera device. The file never leaves your computer.

Why isn't CamLooper Virtual Camera in Zoom's camera list?

Zoom enumerates cameras at launch, so if it was already open it hasn't seen the new device. Quit Zoom completely — including the tray icon on Windows — then start CamLooper and reopen Zoom. Other causes are covered in virtual camera not showing up.

Can I still switch back to my real webcam?

Yes. CamLooper adds a device rather than replacing one, so your real webcam stays in the same menu and you can switch mid-call.

What this is not for

Don't use CamLooper for proctored exams, identity or KYC verification, job interviews, or to impersonate anyone. It exists so you can meet a camera-on requirement without broadcasting your home to a room of strangers.

How you use CamLooper is your responsibility alone. Your school's rules, your employer's, your platform's terms of service and the law where you live all still apply.
