Privacy Policy

CamLooper is built local-first. This policy explains what data the CamLooper desktop application and the marketing website (camlooper.com) collect, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the app and the website only; it does not cover third-party sites or services that we link to.

In plain terms: your video files never leave your computer, there are no accounts, and we don't track what you play. The only personal data involved is the standard request metadata that any website receives, plus whatever the in-app ad network collects when an ad is displayed — both described in full below.

Who we are

"CamLooper", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the makers of the CamLooper application, reachable at [email protected]. For the limited personal data described in this policy, we act as the data controller; the third parties listed below (Cloudflare and our ad network) act as independent controllers or processors for the data they receive.

The desktop app

  • Video files stay on your machine. All processing (loading, transcoding, looping, virtual-camera streaming) runs locally through FFmpeg. Your videos are never uploaded to CamLooper or any third party by the app.
  • No account, no login. There is nothing to sign up for, and we do not collect your name, email, or any profile information to run the app.
  • No content telemetry. The app does not report which files you play, their contents, or their metadata.
  • Local settings. Your preferences (such as loop and quality options, and the timestamp of the last in-app ad) are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us.
  • Optional update checks. The app may check camlooper.com for a newer release. This is a standard HTTPS request; Cloudflare (which serves the site) records the request metadata described under "The website" below.

Advertising

CamLooper is free and supported by ads. In the desktop app this is a small banner at the top of the window, plus a welcome page that opens in your default browser when you start the app — at most once every six hours. On this website, ads appear on the home page and on blog articles; the download and privacy pages carry none. By default these slots ship as house ads (promoting CamLooper itself). When third-party advertising is enabled, creatives are served through third-party ad networks — Adsterra and Monetag.

When a third-party ad slot renders, the ad network and its demand partners may collect standard request metadata (IP address, approximate location derived from it, user-agent, device and browser type, and the referring page) and may set cookies or similar identifiers within the ad frame to serve ads, cap how often you see them, prevent fraud, and measure delivery. This processing is carried out by the ad network as an independent controller under its own policy. Ads are isolated in a sandboxed frame, both in the app and on this website, and the welcome page the app opens in your browser is an ordinary page on camlooper.com — no ad network ever sees the video files you load or the frames you stream. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share the contents of your videos with anyone.

That advertising frame also records an anonymous impression event in Google Analytics so we can tell how often an ad was shown and whether it was filled by the network or fell back to our own house ad. This happens in the app as well as on the website. The event carries only the placement (app or website), the ad size, and whether it was filled — never anything about your videos, your files or what you do in the app.

The website

camlooper.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes request metadata (IP address, user-agent, requested URL, and timestamps) as part of serving the site and providing security and DDoS protection. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

Analytics (Google Analytics)

The website uses Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use the site — for example, which pages are viewed and how people arrive — so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga and _ga_<id>) and collects information including a randomly generated identifier, the pages you view, the referring source, and approximate location, device and browser type derived from your request. Google states that it does not log or store your full IP address in Google Analytics 4. Google processes this data on our behalf as our data processor under its terms; we have not enabled Google's cross-site advertising features, so your visit is not linked to a Google advertising profile by us. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser.

Cookies and similar technologies

The CamLooper website uses Google Analytics, which sets first-party analytics cookies (such as _ga) to measure site usage, as described under "The website" above — these are the only cookies we set ourselves. Within an advertising frame, whether in the app or on this website, the ad network may set cookies or use similar identifiers as described above; these are governed by that network's policy, not ours, and Google Analytics also sets its own analytics cookie in that frame to record the ad impression described above. The home page embeds a YouTube player showing what the app does; it is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com, so YouTube does not set advertising cookies unless you press play. The desktop app uses local device storage (not cookies) to remember your settings, and that data stays on your machine. Where required by law, ad networks are responsible for obtaining any consent needed for the identifiers they set.

How we use data, and our legal bases

We use the limited data described above only to deliver and secure the app and website, to measure and improve the website, to check for updates when you ask the app to, and to fund the app through advertising. For users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, our legal bases under the GDPR are: our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service (request metadata processed by Cloudflare) and in funding a free product (advertising), and, where applicable, your consent for analytics and interest-based advertising cookies. We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Data retention

We do not maintain our own database of users. Server-side request logs are retained by Cloudflare according to its retention practices. Data collected by the ad networks is retained under their respective policies. Local app settings persist on your device until you clear them or uninstall the app.

International data transfers

Our service providers (Cloudflare and the ad networks) operate globally and may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Those providers rely on their own safeguards for international transfers, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, as described in their privacy policies linked above.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data — including the right to access, correct, delete, or port it, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Because the app requires no account and we hold no profile that identifies you, we usually cannot link data back to an individual on our side; requests about data held by Cloudflare or the ad networks are best directed to those providers using the policies linked above. EEA and UK residents (GDPR)

You have the rights listed above and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been handled unlawfully.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell or "share" (as those terms are defined under California law) your personal information, and we do not knowingly process the personal information of California residents for cross-context behavioral advertising beyond what the ad networks do under their own policies. You have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To opt out of interest-based advertising, use the controls in the ad networks' policies linked above.

Children's privacy

CamLooper is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will address it.

Third-party links

This site and the app may link to third-party websites and services (for example, the ad networks and download hosts). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties; review their policies before providing any information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and material changes will be reflected here. Your continued use of CamLooper after an update means you accept the revised policy.
