Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-10
CamLooper processes your videos on your computer. This policy explains what data the CamLooper desktop application and the marketing website (camlooper.com) collect, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the app and the website only; it does not cover third-party sites or services that we link to.
In plain terms: your video files never leave your computer, there are no accounts, and we don't track what you play. The app is free and shows ads. The ad pages and this website use PostHog analytics, and the ad pages also load scripts from our ad network, Adsterra, which may collect device and browser data and set cookies. All of this is described below.
Who we are
"CamLooper", "we", "us" and "our" refer to the makers of the CamLooper application, reachable at [email protected]. For the limited personal data described in this policy, we act as the data controller; the third parties listed below (Cloudflare, PostHog and our ad network, Adsterra) act as independent controllers or processors for the data they receive.
The desktop app
- Video files stay on your machine. All processing (loading, transcoding, looping, virtual-camera streaming) runs locally through FFmpeg. Your videos are never uploaded to CamLooper or any third party by the app.
- No account, no login. There is nothing to sign up for, and we do not collect your name, email, or any profile information to run the app.
- No content telemetry. The app does not report which files you play, their contents, or their metadata.
- Local settings. Your preferences (such as loop and quality options, and the timestamp of the last in-app ad) are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us.
- Ads. The app loads an ad banner from camlooper.com and opens an ad page in your browser (see "Advertising" below). Apart from those ad pages, the app sends no analytics: no launch, session, camera or content data.
Advertising
CamLooper is free and supported by ads. The desktop app has two ad placements. A banner (camlooper.com/ads/banner) appears across the top of the app window each time you start the app; the X hides it until the next start. And about 2 seconds after the app starts, it opens an ad page (camlooper.com/ads/popup) in your default browser, at most once every 6 hours. On this website, ads appear on the home page, the FAQ, the guide pages and the blog; the download and privacy pages have none. These ads are served by a third-party ad network, Adsterra. When Adsterra has no ad to show, the slot shows our own ad for CamLooper instead.
When an ad page loads, Adsterra's scripts, and those of its demand partners, run on that page. They may collect standard request metadata (IP address, approximate location derived from it, user-agent, device and browser type, and the referring page) and may set cookies or similar identifiers to serve ads, cap how often you see them, prevent fraud, and measure delivery. This processing is carried out by the ad network as an independent controller under its own policy. See Adsterra's privacy policy for details of what they collect and how to opt out of interest-based advertising.
The ad pages are ordinary web pages on camlooper.com, and they are not sandboxed. In the app, the banner loads in a frame with no sandbox restrictions; on this website, ad frames have none either; and the page the app opens is a normal browser tab. The app never passes your videos, file names or camera frames to these pages, so no ad network receives them. We do not share the contents of your videos with anyone.
The ad pages also send three events to PostHog, our analytics provider: ad_impression each time an ad slot loads, watch_ad when Adsterra filled the slot, and ad_click when someone clicks our own CamLooper ad (we can't see clicks on Adsterra ads). This happens for the in-app banner, the browser page the app opens, and the ads on this website. The events record where the ad appeared (app banner, browser page or website), whether Adsterra filled the slot, and, for the banner, the ad size. PostHog also records the standard details described under "Analytics (PostHog)" below, such as browser, device type and an approximate location from your IP address, and sets its cookie on the ad pages. The events never include anything about your videos, your files or what you do in the app.
The website
camlooper.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes request metadata (IP address, user-agent, requested URL, and timestamps) as part of serving the site and providing security and DDoS protection. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.
Analytics (PostHog)
The website uses PostHog, a
product analytics service, to understand how visitors use the site — for example, which
pages are viewed and how people arrive — so we can improve it. PostHog sets a first-party
cookie (ph_<project key>_posthog), mirrored in your browser's local
storage, holding a randomly generated identifier so repeat visits from the same browser can
be counted as one visitor. It records the pages you view, the referring source and any
campaign tags on the link, clicks and similar interactions with page elements, and your
browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language. Your IP address is sent
with each event and is used to derive an approximate location, typically at city level, and
is stored alongside the event.
We do not use session recording, so your screen is not being replayed. We never ask PostHog to attach events to a named person, so what we hold is anonymous — we have no way to identify you from it. PostHog Inc. processes this data on our behalf as our data processor, on its United States infrastructure; see PostHog's privacy policy. We don't link your visit to an advertising profile ourselves, but the ad slots on this website load Adsterra's scripts, which may (see "Advertising" above). You can opt out by blocking cookies for this site, by using your browser's tracking protection, or with any common content blocker — the site works the same either way.
Cookies and similar technologies
The CamLooper website uses PostHog, which sets one first-party analytics cookie
(ph_<project key>_posthog) to measure site usage, as described under
"The website" above — that is the only cookie we set ourselves. PostHog sets the same cookie on the ad pages (camlooper.com/ads/banner and /ads/popup) to record the ad events described above. On those ad pages, whether in the app, in the browser tab the app opens, or framed on this website, Adsterra and its partners may also set their own cookies or similar identifiers; these are governed by Adsterra's policy, not ours. The home page embeds a YouTube
player showing what the app does; it is loaded from youtube-nocookie.com, so YouTube does
not set advertising cookies unless you press play. The desktop app uses local device
storage (not cookies)
to remember your settings, and that data stays on your machine. Where required by law, ad
networks are responsible for obtaining any consent needed for the identifiers they set.
How we use data, and our legal bases
We use the limited data described above only to deliver and secure the app and website, to measure and improve the website, to count how often ads are shown, filled and clicked, and to fund the app through advertising. For users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, our legal basis under the GDPR is our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service (request metadata processed by Cloudflare), in understanding how the website and the ad pages are used through basic analytics (PostHog), and in funding a free product through advertising. Ads are served by Adsterra, which processes data as an independent controller under its own policy; see Adsterra's privacy policy. We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
Data retention
We do not maintain our own database of users. Analytics events are kept for as long as PostHog's retention settings for our project allow, and no longer than needed to understand site and app usage. Server-side request logs are retained by Cloudflare according to its retention practices. Data collected by Adsterra is retained under its own policy. Local app settings persist on your device until you clear them or uninstall the app.
International data transfers
Our service providers (Cloudflare, PostHog and Adsterra) may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States, where PostHog stores our analytics data. Those providers rely on their own safeguards for international transfers, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, as described in their privacy policies linked above.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data — including the right to access, correct, delete, or port it, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Because the app requires no account and we hold no profile that identifies you, we usually cannot link data back to an individual on our side; requests about data held by Cloudflare, PostHog or Adsterra are best directed to those providers using the policies linked above. You can still contact us at [email protected] and we will help where we can.
EEA and UK residents (GDPR)
You have the rights listed above and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been handled unlawfully.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
Third-party ad networks (Adsterra) that run on this website and on the ad pages the app opens may collect device and browser data, such as your IP address, device and browser type, and cookie identifiers, under their own policies; see Adsterra's privacy policy. You have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To opt out of interest-based advertising, use the controls in the ad networks' policies linked above.
Children's privacy
CamLooper is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will address it.
Third-party links
This site and the app may link to third-party websites and services (for example, the ad networks and download hosts). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties; review their policies before providing any information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and material changes will be reflected here. Your continued use of CamLooper after an update means you accept the revised policy.
